Let’s Talk About Clash of Champions 2016

Let’s go JAACCCKEEETTTSSS!!!!! Sorry guys and gals, I did not get to catch Clash of Champions live last night, as I was at a Columbus Blue Jackets preseason game. However, I wanted to quickly run through my thoughts of the Clash. So….here we go!

Match 1: The New Day ©  vs. The Club for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Recap: Not too much going on that is new between these two teams. New Day and The Club have faced off…20 times in the past 2 months. TWENTY TIMES…Anyways, story of the match was that Anderson was messing with the trombone and trying to destroy it. In the end we see Anderson get hit with the trombone and the New Day hit the midnight hour for the 1…2…3. God, I really hope they stop this feud, but with this finish I believe that this pairing must continue.

Your Winners and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions: The New Day

Match 2: TJ Perkins © vs. Brian Kendrick

Recap: Lots of moves.Highlight for me was Kendrick’s tights, and TJ’s entrance. Perkins hits a nice spinning headscissors. TJ Tries to baseball slide out on Kendrick and he caught him in the ring apron. Perkins had a nice spider-man spot.   Story of the match saw TJ escape the Captain’s Hook and locks in the knee bar for the 1….2…3! Perkins extended his hand to Kendrick, and they embrace. However, Kendrick headbutts TJ, and leave him laying. Match was pretty good. TJ and Kendrick worked well with one another, and I liked that they both did mat work and both have submission finishers!

Your winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champions: TJ Perkins

Match 3: Sheamus vs. Cesaro

Recap: Another match that was really good but just did nothing for me. This match was the match that just felt like a recap of all the other matches they had. It had to be long so they just went back to the well of moves that they have already done leading up to this finale.

The biggest pop I got out of this match was me reacting to the suicide dive Cesaro hit, which caused him to scorpion and looked like it legitimately killed him. Match ends when both Cesaro and Sheamus “kick too much ass” and the match is called a draw…so let’s see if we get another best of seven to determine the winner of this best for seven.

Your Winner: DRAW

Match 4: Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn

Recap: Match was a little sloppy and the ending was something I would like to see be done differently. Sami needs wins. Jericho, if they are sending him towards the main event, needs wins as well. So they were stuck in a no-win situation. Chris and Sami did put on a good match, it just fell apart in spots. I was left wanting more and a different outcome, and ending of  which, was Jericho hitting the Codebreaker for the 1…2…3!

Your Winner: Chris Jericho

Match 5 Charlotte © vs. Bailey vs. Sasha for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship

Recap: Match was solid, if not a bit messy. They are all capable of better but I liked it. All three women revert to spots they “have” to do every match and the formula is wearing a little thin, in the WWE in general. Charlotte’s new finisher is now the big boot? Charlotte is god-tier apparently and it looked like their “money” feud is going to be Charlotte and Dana…mmmhmmm…Charlotte winning last week, and then this week just leads me to believe neither of your babyfaces are good enough and we shouldn’t care. I did not agree with this finish at all

Your Winner and STILL WWE RAW Women’s Champion: Charlotte

Match 6: Roman Reigns vs. Rusev © for the US Championship

Recap: So, like a broken record…this match was pretty good. However, they did the same stuff they do every week. I knew Rusev and Roman could, and would, have a great match together. However, I saw them have a great match, for free, on RAW. Did they really do anything I didn’t see that week?

Hell, they even brought up the old gimmick that Rusev was defending the honor of Lana…which Roman already defended by beating Rusev months ago. Match was good, which Roman won with the spear and the 1…2…3! I think this is the way you need to go with this belt, and with Roman. Roman, should dominate this division for a while and see what happens. Hell, maybe turn him heel during his run! Yeah, I know, I know!

Your Winner and NEW US Championship: Roman Reigns

Match 7: Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens © for the WWE Universal Championship

Recap: Jeez, did I A. love this match, B. thought the match was good but didn’t leave me thinking WOW, I really saw something new, or C. It was shit? If you selected B. You would be right. I liked this match.

I thought both left a lot on the table but it just turned into a WWE main event match. Too formulaic for my taste with Kevin needing a screwy finish to retain the belt…Kevin looking strong folks. Jericho comes out and is tossed out of the ring. Kevin hits the Pop Up Powerbomb for the 1…2…3!

Your Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champions: Kevin Owens

Show Overall: Short and sweet, their 3 hour RAWs are killing the special-ness of these events. I already saw almost everyone on the show tonight wrestle each other recently. Also, a lot of screwing, wonky finishes tonight. How am I supposed to care about this show, when we are going right back into a 3 hour event tonight, with the same length of matches, the same opponents (big time matches) being broadcasted for free? I just didn’t find anything special about tonight, and the aftermath? Oh, we talk about Stephanie and how she probably screwed Seth…Oh, and if you caught the special aftermath of this already 3 plus hour show, we get to see Stephanie and HHH embrace…wow, I am shocked…she was actually talking and getting along fine with her husband and wa i n on the screw job…oh, boy reign of heel Stephanie on RAW…whooopy!
